Head of Technology & AI

Your main goal at Profound

Take full ownership of technology: delivery quality, team leadership, and our AI transformation program. You set the technical direction across the company and are the technical voice in client conversations.

About this role

We're Profound: a marketing and technology agency based in Curaçao. We work with mid-to-large clients across the Caribbean; from financial institutions and government to retail and leisure. We're about 35 people, and we're in the middle of an ambitious shift: becoming an AI-first agency. Every workflow, every project, redesigned around AI.

One of our founding Managing Directors has led our technology services. Now the department is ready for its own dedicated leader. That's where you come in.

We are looking for someone who takes responsibility for the standard they set, and lives that standard before asking the team to match it. Someone who closes meetings with decisions, owners, and dates. Who gives feedback that is specific, timely, and behavioural. And invites the same in return. Confident enough to set technical direction; humble enough to translate it across disciplines that are not their own.

What you will own

Technical delivery — You own the build quality and delivery margin of every client project we ship: websites, custom platforms/software, integrations, mobile apps, and internal tools. You set architecture standards and pick the stack.

Team leadership — You lead a small, senior team of around ten (developers, UX, technical marketeers). You shape it forward; deciding who joins, how the team is structured, and what good looks like.

AI transformation — You run our AI transformation as a live, working program. That means continuing to develop our engineering workflows around AI coding agents, generative design, automated QA, and AI-driven discovery and scoping.

Commercial involvement — You are in scoping calls, pitches, and RFPs. You co-own pricing with commercial leadership where technology drives the value. You are the person who knows what is buildable, and at what cost.

What you already bring

• At least five years of development/engineering experience, with a meaningful share spent leading a small, senior team.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools; real solutions you have shipped where AI was the primary engineering interface.
• Senior experience in designing scalable software architectures and deploying secure cloud infrastructures that reliably support diverse client needs.
• Working knowledge of the major model families: Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI, and at least one open-source or local model.
• Hands-on proven expertise of full-stack engineering, including modern JavaScript frameworks like React or Node.js, enterprise CMS platforms like WordPress, Drupal, or headless alternatives, and backend languages like PHP or Python to architect adaptable solutions for diverse client needs.
• Experience designing agentic workflows: multi-step tasks with tools, memory, and verification.
• Confidence as the technical voice in client-facing settings: scoping, defending decisions, holding the line on what is buildable.
• Fluent English. Papiamentu, Spanish or Dutch is a welcome addition.
• Willingness to spend four to six weeks per year in Curaçao for key client work and team time.

Nice to have

• An agency or services background: you have sold, scoped, and delivered client work end-to-end.
• Familiarity with the Caribbean market.
• A public presence (writing, talks, open work) that shows you can teach AI engineering as well as practise it.
